RACT

In this case study, I’ll walk through my role in redesigning RACT’s component library to address challenges like inconsistent designs, scattered assets, and unclear usage guidelines. The aim was to establish a unified design system that streamlined workflows and enhanced collaboration between designers and developers.

Over six weeks, I worked with the team to consolidate assets, create clear guidelines, and design essential components, ensuring a consistent and accessible experience across RACT’s design process.

Process

Breaking down the project

The process began with a workshop to assess gaps in the existing system and gather inspiration from established UI libraries. This collaborative session helped define the redesign's direction and address current challenges.

Defining goals and outputs

The workshop outcomes were used to clarify the objectives of the new UI library, including:

Expanding knowledge and resources to communicate the design process and RACT’s brand values.

Consolidating assets into a single design system.

Strengthening accessibility principles from the ground up.

Streamlining designs by focusing on essential components and styles.

Establishing guidelines to ensure alignment between design and development teams.

Creating assets and collaborative guidelines

To foster alignment, I created an accessibility guideline to ensure accessibility principles were embedded across all RACT products. For the design team, I added a usage section to each component, demonstrating how to use assets effectively.
